ROCKSTAR ENERGY HUSQVARNA FACTORY RACING’S MICHAEL MOSIMAN BATTLES THROUGH ADVERSE CONDITIONS AT SAN DIEGO SX.

Coming off a career-best finish one week ago, Michael Mosiman and the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team took on an extremely wet and muddy Round 5 of the 2019 AMA Supercross World Championship series on Saturday in San Diego, Calif. Mosiman battled through the unfavorable conditions to finish just outside the top-ten in the 250SX West class with 12th place for the night.

Rainfall inundated the area all day, making for some very challenging track conditions inside the open Petco Park stadium. As a result, the timed qualifying schedule was condensed into one session per group, leaving no room for error on the part of qualifying times. Mosiman approached the conditions with confidence as he rode his FC 250 to a 13th place qualifying position.

In 250SX West Heat 2, Mosiman didn’t get the traction he was looking for off the start as he encountered a face full of roost as he made his way down the muddy start straight. With limited vision, Mosiman ended up going down just before the first turn and he began the heat in last place. He quickly got going and charged his way through the field to secure a sixth-place transfer into the Main Event.

In the 250SX Main Event, the race time was shortened to ten minutes plus one lap. Mosiman didn’t get the best start but he put his head down and went to work early on. However, he crashed about three turns in and was forced to once again begin his charge from the last-place position. Mosiman was able to make passes and steadily climb through the field where he ultimately finished 12th for the night.

„After a long day of waiting around, we finally got on the track and it was muddy to say the least, but I was enjoying the mud and having a blast,” Mosiman said. “I got another poor start in the Main Event – I jumped out and got pinched off but I was kind of not concerned because I knew I was riding well in the mud; and then three turns in, I crashed. I started coming through the pack and making passes, and someone cut over and clipped my front wheel and I went down. I got back up and went down one more time and ended up 12th. I’m really disappointed with this one because I felt like I had a shot to do really well and I don’t think I ride the mud too badly. But I’m going to go back, process it and learn from it. Obviously, the conditions are super unpredictable but I still just want to be better. I’m disappointed but we’ll get better and look to the next round.”

Husqvarna Motorcycles supported, Rockstar Energy athlete Dean Wilson battled through the tough conditions to earn a 12th place finish in San Diego. He earned a direct transfer into the 450SX Main Event with an eighth-place finish in his heat race. In the Main Event, he powered his FC 450 from a 19th place position on the opening lap to climb his way up to 12th by the end of the race.

Next Event: February 9 – Minneapolis SX – U.S. Bank Stadium – Minneapolis, Minnesota
