Qualifying sessions conclude day one of the FIM Junior Motocross World Championship in Greece.
The first day of racing has concluded in Megalopolis, Greece, for the 2021 edition of the FIM Junior Motocross World Championship.
The most talented youngsters took to the PPC-MINES MEGALOPOLIS CIRCUIT for their qualifying sessions today in the hope of beginning the competition with a good starting position for the races.
Alongside the qualifying practice sessions of the day, a special FIM Ride Green activation took place, which saw all the national teams plant their very own tree at the circuit to go in line with FIM’s Ride Green mission to protect the environment.
In the 65cc category, Hungarian Aaron Katona was the fastest rider in the group with a lap time of 2:09.374, while Dutch rider Dean Gregoire was second with a time of 2:10.642. Third was Bulgarian Dani Tsankov, while the best placing local rider was Georgios Tsalikis who placed 33rd for tomorrow’s races.
The fastest 85cc rider was Latvian Martins Janis Reisulis who clocked a lap time of 1:58.645 ahead of Italian Mattia Barbieri who put in a time of 1:58.680. The third fastest rider in the group was last year’s 65cc Junior World Cup winner, Vitezslav Marek.
Meanwhile in the 125cc class, current EMX125 Championship leader, Haakon Osterhagen of Fantic Factory Team Maddii was the fastest rider in the qualifying session as he set a time of 2:00.340 ahead of Latvian Alberts Karlis Reisulis who was just 0.630 seconds behind. Third was Spaniard Raul Sanchez. Last year’s 85cc World Champion, Valerio Lata placed fifth.
With the qualifying action concluded, it is time to look forward to tomorrow’s races as we gear up to crown the 2021 125cc and 85cc Junior World Champions and Junior World Cup winner in the 65cc category.
