CHALLENGING MXGP ROUND FIVE FOR GASGAS FACTORY RACING.

ALL RIDERS OVERCOME ADVERSITIES TO PUT VITAL CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS ON THE BOARD.

GASGAS Factory Racing has completed a challenging fifth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship despite all riders overcoming various forms of adversity in the Czech Republic. Faring best was MX2 class racer Isak Gifting who, despite taking a trip through the goggle lane early on in race two, came away with a solid 12th overall. Close behind in 13th was teammate Simon Langenfelder. In the MXGP division, Pauls Jonass’ weekend was highlighted by a strong sixth in moto two.

Isak Gifting:“It was a difficult day to begin with but for race two I felt really good. I had a great start and I was on the pace with the leaders. I felt comfortable and then unfortunately, a rock broke my goggles. It’s too dangerous on a track like this to ride without them so I had to come in and change them, but as it was early in the race I lost a lot of places. I was way down and got back to 13th, which was good, but it should have been much better. I have plenty of positives to take away from here and I’m looking forward to Lommel next weekend.”

After last weekend’s visit to the sandy Oss race track in the Netherlands for MXGP round four, GASGAS Factory Racing packed up the race trucks and travelled to the hardpack circuit of Loket in the Czech Republic for the fifth stop of the series.

In the MX2 class, DIGA Procross’ Isak Gifting added further points to his championship tally with 15-13 results. After a solid opening moto, in race two, a rock damaged the 20-year-old’s goggles, which forced him to take a trip through the goggle lane, losing his place inside the top-10. The Swede then put together a strong charge to climb his way back up the leaderboard, ultimately claiming 13th for 12th overall.

For Isak’s teammate Simon Langenfelder, the young German couldn’t quite replicate his impressive starts from the previous round, making his day in Loket much more challenging. Nevertheless, the 17-year-old claimed consistent 14-15 result for 13th overall.

For Standing Construct’s MXGP class racer Pauls Jonass, despite still feeling the effects of his sizable crash last weekend the Latvian lined up at Loket confident of returning to his early season form. Frustratingly, after moving into seventh and with only a handful of laps remaining in race one, a freak technical issue resulted in a disappointing DNF for the 24-year-old. For moto two, Pauls was back on the gas and came out on top of a race long battle with Shaun Simpson for sixth.

Brian Bogers also suffered with a frustrating day in the Czech Republic, placing 18th in race one. Looking to make amends in moto two, and following a much better start for the Dutchman, a rock damaged the clutch on his MC 450F, which frustratingly brought his day to an early end.

Simon Langenfelder:“This weekend was difficult and quite stressful for me. Our family dog went missing in the town center on Saturday evening, which effected my riding a little bit today. I went 14-15 which wasn’t so bad after all. I think race two would have been better for me, but my holeshot device popped up too soon so my start wasn’t the greatest. I came back to 15th from well outside the top-20 so it wasn’t the worst result, but I think I’d have been higher up with a better start.”

Pauls Jonass:“It was a shame that I cased the triple in race one as I was up there and feeling good for a strong result. The impact made my spark plug cap come off, so it wasn’t a good start to the day. In race two, things were much better. I had a good start again and I was up there with the leaders, and ended up with sixth, so pretty decent. I still felt a little bit banged up from last weekend but going into Lommel next weekend, I think I’ll be back to 100% and ready to go in the sand.”

Brian Bogers: Today was a bit of struggle. In race one I didn’t get a great start and with everyone riding at a similar pace it was hard to make passes. I was fired up for the second one, and after getting through the first couple of laps and moving forwards, a rock damaged my clutch and at this level, your bike needs to be 100%. It’s frustrating but we’re back in the sand next weekend and I’m looking to bounce back and claim another strong result like I did in the sand last weekend in Oss.”

Both Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing and DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Racing will continue their FIM Motocross World Championship campaigns next weekend at the MXGP of Flanders-Belgium.
