ANDREA VERONA TAKES ENDURO2 VICTORY AT 2023 ISDE.
GASGAS FACTORY RACING STAR BATTLES THROUGH GRUELING WEEK-LONG EVENT TO FINISH AS RUNNER-UP IN OVERALL INDIVIDUAL STANDINGS.
What a performance! GASGAS Factory Racing’s Andrea Verona pushed hard through the super-tough 2023 FIM International Six Days Enduro in Argentina, nailing a second-place overall result and taking the top spot in the ultra-competitive Enduro2 category. Awesome ride, Andrea!
Hot, dusty, and intense – three words to describe the 97th edition of the ISDE. San Juan delivered five incredibly challenging days of special tests followed by an equally demanding final motocross test. From day one, Verona was well in the fight for victory. The Italian made a strong start to proceedings, going fastest in the very first test. From then on, Andrea was locked in a battle with friend and rival Josep Garcia that would last the entire six days.
Placing second overall on day one, Verona took control on day two to top the timesheets and take the lead overall. The fight continued for the next three days, and over the course of the five days of special test action, each and every stage win went to either Verona or Garcia. At the end of Friday, and with a total of close to four hours of racing under his belt, Andrea trailed his rival by just one minute.
The final motocross test was another dusty affair, with 38 World trophy Riders battling it out on track. Andrea didn’t get the best start out the gate but soon started picking his way through the field. Reaching the checkered flag in a strong sixth place, Verona secured his Enduro2 class victory and his runner-up overall result.
Andrea Verona:“It’s been a super-tough Six Days this year but I’m happy with how I rode. It just wasn’t enough to take the win. The whole week has been challenging, especially physically with the heat, but I was able to keep up a really good pace every day without too many mistakes. The final motocross test didn’t go so well. I got a bit caught up at the beginning and then had to fight my way through. I won the E2 class, which is really good, especially when you look at the quality of the riders in the category, but I didn’t quite have what it took to beat Josep in the overall. I’ll keep learning, I know I have a few things I need to work on, so the plan now is to come back again next year, even faster, and take the win.”
