THE 2025 MXGP AWARDS CELEBRATE A SPECTACULAR SEASON IN DARWIN.

The 2025 MXGP Awards concluded another thrilling season of the FIM Motocross World Championship with a spectacular ceremony on the stunning front lawn of the Mindil Casino Resort in Darwin on Sunday evening. With the sun setting over the Timor Sea, the world of motocross came together to celebrate the champions, the teams and the organizers who made this season one of the most memorable yet.

The evening began with a red carpet that shone a spotlight on the riders, team members, and key figures of the paddock, before guests gathered for the ceremony hosted by MXGP-TV Commentator Paul Malin and Presenter Lisa Leyland, streamed live to fans around the world on MXGP-TV, YouTube, and Facebook.

Before the formal proceedings, MC Greg Rust opened the evening with an Acknowledgment to Country, paying respect to the Larrakia people as the Traditional Custodians of the land. Greg then invited to the stage the Acting Chief Minister, The Honourable Gerard Maley, who officially welcomed the global motocross family to Darwin and underlined the significance of hosting the MXGP Awards in the Northern Territory.

After an upbeat introduction, Infront Moto Racing CEO David Luongo took the stage, congratulating the champions and reflecting on an incredible season that stretched across four continents. He highlighted the sport’s growth, the passion of the fans, and the hard work of everyone behind the scenes. FIM President Jorge Viegas followed with words praising the resilience of the riders and organizers, noting the truly global spirit of motocross that continues to thrive.

The 2025 MXGP Awards recognised the top manufacturers, teams, and riders across all classes, while also shining a light on the future stars of motocross:

  • MXGP World Champion: Romain Febvre,
  • MX2 World Champion:  Simon Längenfelder
  • WMX World Champion: Lotte Van Drunen,
  • MXGP Manufacturer World Champion: KTM
  • MXGP Winning Team: Kawasaki Factory Racing
  • Best MXGP Private Team: Team Honda Motoblouz SR Motul
  • MX2 Manufacturer World Champion: KTM
  • MX2 Winning Team: Red Bull KTM Factory Racing
  • Best MX2 Private Team: Van Venrooy KTM
  • WMX Manufacturer World Champion: GASGAS
  • WMX Winning Team: De Baets MX-Yamaha Team

The prestigious “Jan De Groot” Award was presented to Lucas Coenen, recognising his outstanding talent, prowess and impact at the highest level, fighting for the MXGP World Championship. Placing himself as one of the most promising young riders of his generation.

The European and Junior World Champions were also celebrated, including the winners in the 65cc, 85cc, 125cc, EMX categories, and Junior Motocross of Nations with a great clip shown on the screen to the audience and highlighting the depth of emerging talent within the motocross pyramid.

Performance awards lit up the evening with Lucas Coenen and Simon Längenfelder awarded the Acerbis Best Lap Competition, while twin brothers Lucas and Sacha Coenen were recognised with the Fox Holeshot Award,

Performance prizes also took centre stage, with Lucas Coenen and Simon Längenfelder securing the Acerbis Best Lap Competition, while the Fox Holeshot Award presented by Kenny Day, FOX Global Sports Marketing Manager, went to twins’ sensation Lucas and Sacha Coenen, honouring their lightning-fast starts that often set the tone for the races.

Off the track, excellence was recognised in the organizer awards, with Darwin’s MXGP of Australia taking home the Best Promotion Award, collected by the Honourable Marie-Claire Boothby, Minister for Major Events a fitting nod to the incredible success of the Grand Prix’s return Down Under. The Best Project Development went to China with their effort  in 2025 while the Best Organizer Awards went to the MXGP of France which has delivered another superb Grand Prix in 2025 supported my thousands of incredible fans.

To round up an incredible evening of awards, the spotlight shone on the three newly crowned FIM Motocross World Champions, Romain Febvre in MXGP, Simon Längenfelder in MX2, and Lotte Van Drunen in WMX, the pinnacle of motocross. The World Champion Plates were presented to each champion by Jorge Viegas, while the iconic World Champion Rings were handed over by David Luongo.

With the world champions crowned, the 2025 MXGP Awards in Darwin will be remembered as one of the most unique and atmospheric celebrations in the history of the sport. Against the incredible backdrop of the Northern Territory sunset, the event reflected both the beauty of its setting and the intensity of the season it honoured.
