MXGP of Latvia Kicks off with the Opening Press Conference.
After the success of the previous edition, the opening press conference for the 2019 MXGP of Latvia was held at Riga’s Lido Leisure center for the second year in a row in front of national and international media. The MXGP of Latvia is celebrating its 10thanniversary being in 2009 the first time the FIM Motocross World Championship visited Latvia.
Starting off the conference was a welcoming message from Youthstream Press Officer Samanta Gelli, FIM/CMS Director Antonio Alia Portela, MXGP of Latvia Local Organizer Kristers Sergis and LAMSF President Mārtiņš Lazdovski.
Youthstream Press Officer Samanta Gelli: “I’m honoured to be speaking on behalf of Youthstream today and I wish to express how proud we are to be in Latvia again this year. The cooperation Youthstream have with the Organizer and the Latvian Federation has been always outstanding. I use this occasion to thank MXGP of Latvia Local Organizer Kristers Sergis, LAMSF President Mārtiņš Lazdovskiand the local government for the great job they always do to welcome MXGP in their faboulous country and for the effort they put every year to maintain high quality standards. I also use this occasion to mention that the interest in motocross is improving every year on Digital Platforms and TV Coverage alike in Latvia and Baltic countries in general, being Channel Sports Baltic broadcasting the 2019 MXGP season and the full MXGP of Latvia LIVE this weekend on Play Sport+”
FIM/CMS Director Antonio Alia Portela: “On behalf of the FIM I’m very pleased to experience this successful event this year, too. I wish to congratulate the organizer for the 10th anniversary of Motocross World Championship in Latvia and for the way they developed the event. There is a reason if Latvia is now one of the most important events in the calendar; track and facilities are high level assuring the perfect outcome of the event for both MXGP and spectators alike. Epic battles are expected this weekend in MXGP and MX2 and we can’t wait for tomorrow to start the 9th stop of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship.”
Both MXGP of Latvia Local Organizer Kristers Sergis and LAMSF President Mārtiņš Lazdovski took the microphone later on to thank Youthstream and the FIM to trust Latvia as host of one of the most popular stops of the FIM Motocross World Championship. They both mentioned Latvia has a great history in Motocross and now is home of many young talents who might be seen in MX2 or MXGP in the future.
Before passing the microphone to the riders present at the Opening Press Conference the MXGP of Latvia Local Organizer Kristers Sergis wished to remember the previous organizer of the MXGP of Latvia Salvis Freimanis and wished all riders an excellent racing this weekend especially to local hero and former MX2 World Champion Pauls Jonass, who this year is making his debut in MXGP.
After the official speeches the microphone was then passed to MXGP and MX2 including Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass and Arminas Jasikonis, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Romain Febvre, Monster Energy Yamaha Wilvo Official Team’s Arnaud Tonus, A1M Husqvarna’s Tanel Leok, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Tom Vialle, Honda 114 Motorsport’s Mitch Evans and Bike It DRT Kawasaki’s Darian Sanayei who expressed their excitement to be in Latvia and shared their feelings on the championship’s achievements.
The event concluded with a group photo of all the riders and representative setting the stage for MXGP of Latvia 2019!
