MXGP Of Sardegna Kicks-Off With the Official Opening Press Conference.
The MXGP of Sardegna official opening press conference took place in the media center of the Crossodromo Le Dune in Riola Sardo to welcome everybody to Sardinia for round 10 of the FIM Motocross World Championship.
Present for the conference was Infront Moto Racing CEO David Luongo, FIM/CMS Director Antonio Alia Portela, Sardinia Region Minister of Tourism Giovanni Chessa, Sardinia Region Minister of Industry Anita Pili and President of the Motoclub Le Dune Fulvio Maiorca.
It is an exciting occasion that the FIM Motocross World Championship is taking place in Sardinia and that is thanks to the collaboration of all parties, the great atmosphere, supportive involvement of the local authorities and the paradisiac location that MXGP is set for an amazing event this weekend. More importantly, the Grand Prix here is part of a bigger project set out by the Tourism Department of the Region of Sardinia to host international sports and present Sardinia as the ‘Island of Sport”.
Infront Moto Racing CEO David Luongo: „It’s a honour to bring MXGP to Sardegna. This track is one of the most challenging and well know among riders as they love to come here for winter training. I’m proud that this weekend we have almost 200 riders lining up, the deep sand of Riola Sardo will give a lot of challenges to all the top riders of MXGP and MX2. With the announcement of Antonio Cairoli’s retirement this will be a big chance to watch him race in Italy. I wish to thank the FIM, the Organizer and the Region of Sardegna, especially the Region Tourism department led by Giovanni Chessa for their support. We hope to have the MXGP of Sardegna in the MXGP Calendar for a long time.“
FIM/CMS Director Antonio Alia Portela: “Sardinia is a Mediterranean Paradise, being here at this track that is amazing and hosting the FIM World Motocross World Championship is something incredible. Many people worked a lot here to make this track one of the best of the championship. A special thanks to Infront Moto Racing, the Motoclub and local authorities to make the event possible and part of the MXGP calendar in the future”.
Sardinia Region Minister of Tourism Giovanni Chessa: “It’s an honour for me to be here in Riola Sardo to present such event showing the whole world that we brought the FIM Motocross World Championship to one of the most beautiful tracks in the world. The GP here is a project that started 2 and a half years ago when I got this position in the Sardinian region. From the beginning my goal was to bring the best sports events to the region as we are pushing to promote our beautiful region all over the world. Sardinia is a beautiful place where many can enjoy the local cuisine, art and the breath-taking sea views along with all the great sporting events. Sardinia is ready for the FIM World Motocross World Championship and much more. Even during the pandemic situation, we were able to do many events with all the safety request from the government. Our goal is to invest for the future of the region, push the local economy. And the tourism all over the year and not only during the summer. Sardinia is the island of sport”.
Sardinia Region Minister of Industry Anita Pili: “It’s an amazing result to bring the FIM Motocross World Championship here. Speaking with Fulvio some days ago we realised how much we have been worked on that. I know how much the Motoclub worked also on the social side. The sport is necessary for the kids to help them grow up and improve their life”.
President of the Motoclub Le Dune Fulvio Maiorca: “For me, it’s a big emotion, having MXGP here is a dream come true after many years of work behind the scenes. With my wife we travelled all over Europe for more than 10 years, visiting many venues and learning as much as we could to make this dream a reality. Riola is one of the most beautiful tracks in the world and now is a point of reference as a World Motocross track and not only for national races. We worked a lot but of course we still have to improve, but I’m sure that with the help of Infront Moto Racing we’ll achieve the goal. Sardinia is without any doubt the island of motocross and we want to keep the focus for the future. As president of the Motoclub I want to thank all of you for the amazing support”.
